Project 2025 Proposes Several Changes To Marriage in the U.S.

Here are the key changes and their potential negative effects on average Americans:

Here are the key changes and their potential negative effects on average Americans:

A New Definition

  1. Make the definition of marriage be only between one man and one woman.

    1. This means outlawing gay marriage, marriages between nonbinary people, and marriages between anyone that doesn't fall under the gender and sexual binary.

  2. Enforce that marriages are only "biblically-based"

    1. This means reverting to a religious definition in our government- no more separation of Church and state.

  3. Promote a family structure of a married, heterosexual couple with children as the "ideal" family structure.

    1. This means less support for families with a single parent, non-married couples with children, and others that do not fall under this strict definition.

LGBTQ+

  1. Even though we have the Respect for Marriage Act, Project 2025 proposes:

    1. Allowing businesses to discriminate against same-sex couples.

    2. Allowing faith-based organizations to discriminate against same-sex couples or refuse to acknowledge same-sex marriages.

    3. Deny same-sex couples the same benefits that heterosexual couples have.

  2. Eliminate financial support for couples and families that are not heterosexual.

  3. "Discourage" other family structures via financial, social, government, and law-related policies.

  4. Eliminate all diversity, equity, and inclusion programs in schools and government.

  5. Remove terms like "sexual orientation" and "gender equality" from all laws and federal regulations in the U.S.
